Legend Ahead of Her Time

Sugar Pie DeSanto and I have had a 40+ year artist/manager relationship. And you can imagine, there are lots of stories to be told about the ups and downs through those years.

Before my association with Sugar Pie, her career began when she and her friend Etta James were discovered in the Fillmore District of San Francisco by bandleader Johnny Otis, followed by seven years with Chess Records as an artist and staff songwriter and being the opening act for James Brown for two years. And that is but a fraction of her life story. Director Auraeus Solito will tell the rest – the good, the bad and the ugly – I believe the film will reveal the fascinating story of this unique and important rhythm and blues legend who was ahead of her time.
